The Tusculum College Women's tennis team swept its way to a 9-0
victory over Lincoln Memorial University in a South Atlantic
Conference match Saturday afternoon.
The 44th-ranked Pioneers (16-3, 8-1 SAC) did not lose a set to the
Railsplitters (12-7, 7-4 SAC) in earning their 11th shutout victory
of the season.
In doubles action, Erin Mills and Kealee Heffner teamed for an 8-6
victory over Elena Vasilyeva and Priscilla Bulandres at flight one,
Franziska Funke and Amanda Sumner downed Rosa Smith and Javiera
Gonzalez 8-1 at flight two, and Adrienne Kaye partnered with Emily
Waters for an 8-3 victory over Roksolana Prudyvus and Marta Pinol
at flight three.
In singles, Heffner beat Vasilyeva 6-4, 6-1 in a matchup of
regionally-ranked players at flight one. Funke won at flight two
6-3, 6-2 over Pinol, and Mills downed Gonzalez 8-1 at flight
three.
At flight four, Kaye beat Bulandres 8-3, with Sarah Baker winning
6-1, 6-1 over Angelica Solano at flight five and Waters winning at
flight six over Smith by a score of 6-1, 6-0.
The Pioneers continue their schedule on Sunday with a
non-conference match at Bluefield State, beginning at 1 p.m.
