
A sweep of singles play allowed Tusculum College to defeat
Anderson University 8-1 in a South Atlantic Conference Women's
tennis match Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers (12-3, 4-1 SAC) earned wins in two of the three
doubles pro sets, then earned sweeps in four of the six singles
matches to come away with the victory over the Trojans (10-9, 5-5
SAC).
In doubles, Erin Mills and Kealee Heffner defeated Alexandra Ebner
and Jennifer Holcombe 8-1 at flight two, while Adrienne Kaye and
Emily Waters downed Natalia San Jose and Abigail Gregory 8-2 at
flight three.
In singles, Heffner needed a tiebreaker to defeat Rebecca Bruning
7-5, 2-6, (10-8) at flight one, Franziska Funke beat Ivey Welborn
6-1, 6-2 at flight two and Mills downed San Jose 6-2, 6-3 at flight
three. At flight four, Kaye defeated Ebner 6-3, 6-2, Jule Brass
downed Holcombe 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 at flight five, and Waters bested
Nikkola Wichenko 6-1, 6-0 at flight six.
The Pioneers will host Senior Day on Sunday afternoon as Brevard
visits the Nichols Tennis Complex for a 1 p.m. start.
