Tusculum College finished off a 6-3 victory over Queens University of Charlotte Friday afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference Women's tennis match that had been suspended since March 5 due to rain.

The 44th-ranked Pioneers (19-3, 10-1 SAC) secured the number-two seed in next week's SAC Women's Tennis Tournament at Brevard, North Carolina. Tusculum will receive a bye into Friday's semifinals, with the championship match scheduled for next Saturday.

Prior to the rain, the Pioneers led 3-1 after winning two out of three doubles matches and the first completed singles contest. In doubles play, Franziska Funke and Amanda Sumner beat Carlotta Nassi and Melissa Laing 8-6 at flight one, while Erin Mills and Kealee Heffner downed Marta Gonzalez and Caroline Nielsen by an 8-3 score at flight two to give the Pioneers the early advantage. In singles, Sarah Baker defeated Claire Hamilton 6-4, 7-5 at flight five to extend the Pioneer lead to 3-1.

On Friday, the 42nd-ranked Royals (10-3, 8-2 SAC) pulled within 3-2 with a victory at number-four singles, but Heffner gave the Pioneers a 4-2 lead as she defeated Nassi 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 at flight one. Funke came through with the decisive point at flight two as she beat Gonzalez 7-5, 6-2, and Emily Waters earned the final point with a 7-5, 7-5 victory at flight six over Hannah Lehfeldt.

Tusculum will play its final regular-season match on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. when the Pioneers face NAIA second-ranked Georgia Gwinnett.
