ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College
student-athletes Kealee Heffner, Erin Mills, Franziska Funke and
Amanda Sumner have been named to the 2015 All-South Atlantic
Conference women's tennis teams.
Heffner and Mills earned first team singles honors while Funke
was an honorable mention selection. Funke and Sumner were named to
the first team doubles squad. It is the first time in Tusculum
history that four players picked up All-SAC honors in the same
season.
Heffner lands on the All-Conference squad for the first time
in her Pioneer career. The Cumming, Georgia native finished the
regular season with a 13-4 record in the top spot and is 35-5 in
the past two seasons at TC.
Heffner opened the season with an 11-match winning streak
including a win against Wingate's number one player. She was named
the SAC Player of the Week on March 16 and she is a member of the
Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
After being named to the preseason All-SAC second team, Mills
earned her first All-SAC nod of her career. The Duluth, Georgia
native was the 2014 SAC Tournament Most Valuable Player and 2013
SAC Freshman of the Year.
Mills compiled a 14-2 record in the second position and owns a
47-12 career record. She finished the regular season on an
eight-match winning streak, which includes victories over Wingate
and Queens. Mills has also been named an ITA Scholar Athlete.
Funke has had a stellar rookie campaign for the Pioneers. The
Bochum, Germany native is 12-1 playing primarily in the third
position. She earned a key point in the Pioneers' victory over
Queens and she was named the SAC Player of the Week on April 7.
Funke is also a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Funke and Sumner have been the Pioneers' most consistent
doubles team this season after pairing together midway through the
year. The duo is 13-0 playing primarily in the top flight and they
own a victory over a regionally-ranked pair from Queens. Funke and
Sumner have won five matches giving up two games or less and only
three teams won six or more games against them.
Queens' Calotta Nassi was named SAC Player of the Year and SAC
Freshman of the Year. Wingate's Michael Cabana was named SAC Coach
of the Year.
The Pioneers will be seeded second in this weekend's SAC
Tournament in Brevard, North Carolina as they look to defend their
2014 title. TC will face either Anderson or Newberry in the
semifinals on Friday at 1 p.m.
