Women's Tennis ready to defend SAC Tourney title
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College women's tennis team will begin the defense of its South Atlantic Conference Tournament championship on Friday in the semifinals of the 2015 tournament.

The Pioneers, ranked 31st in the latest ITA national rankings, have earned the second seed with its 18-1 record. Wingate University is the top seed and both teams have earned byes into the semifinal round.

The Tournament is being hosted by Brevard College. The quarterfinal round will be played on Thursday with third-seeded Queens taking on sixth-seeded Coker and fourth-seeded Newberry facing fifth-seeded Anderson. Both matches will begin at 1 p.m.

TC will face the winner of the Queens/Coker matchup while the Bulldogs will play either Newberry or Anderson at 1 p.m. on Friday. The winners of each semifinal match will face off in the finals on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Pioneers are a combined 99-14 in singles this season and 48-8 on the doubles side. Franziska Funke and Sarah Baker enter the tournament with the best singles marks for TC. Funke is 13-1 playing primarily in the third spot, while Baker is 18-1 and has played matches at four, five and six.

Kealee Heffner and Erin Mills have anchored the top of the Pioneer lineup. Heffner is 13-4 in the top flight while Mills is 16-2 in the second spot. Kate Hutchinson has a 15-3 record playing primarily in the fourth spot while Adrienne Kaye has been TC's primary player at number five and owns a 13-2 record.

Amanda Sumner and Emily Waters have also played matches for TC at five and six. Sumner is 4-0 while Waters owns a 3-0 mark.

Funke and Sumner are a perfect 11-0 in the top doubles flight. Mills and Heffner have recently been representing the Pioneers in the second spot and own a 4-1 record while Hutchinson and Waters are a perfect 7-0 in the third position.

TC has won seven matches this season by a 9-0 decision and finished with a 10-1 league record. TC edged No. 28 Queens 5-4 on the road in the regular season matchup. The Pioneers defeated the Cobras 8-1 on their home courts.
