GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Kate Hutchinson earned
the decisive point in the 31st-ranked Tusculum College women's
tennis team's 8-1 win over Lincoln Memorial University on Thursday
at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
With the victory, the Pioneers (15-1, 7-1 South Atlantic
Conference) complete a perfect conference record at home for the
2014 season. Hutchinson rolled past Roksolana Prudyvus (6-1, 6-1)
in the fourth singles spot while Erin Mills defeated Gemma Goodland
(6-4, 6-2) in the second position.
Franziska Funke earned a victory in the third flight over
LMU's (5-6, 3-5) Priscilla Bulandres when she was forced to retire
from the match. Adrienne Kaye blanked Summer Robinson 6-0, 6-0 in
the fifth spot while Sarah Baker edged Angelica Solano 8-6 at
number six.
TC took a 3-0 lead after sweeping through doubles play, Funke
and Amanda Sumner were 8-4 winners over Elena Vasilyeva and
Goodland in the top flight. Kealee Heffner and Mills defeated
Robinson and Solano 8-2 in the second spot while Hutchinson and
Emily Waters bested Prudyvus and Bulandres 8-1 in the third
position.
The Pioneers will begin a three-match road trip on Saturday
when they head to Charlotte, North Carolina to take on Queens
University of Charlotte. First serves are set for 2 p.m.
