ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum junior Kealee
Heffner has been selected as the South Atlantic Conference Women's
Tennis Player of the Week, announced today by the league office. It
is her first career SAC weekly honor.
Heffner was a perfect 4-0 in the top singles flight for TC
last week, and helped the 36th-ranked Pioneers improve to 10-0 this
season. Heffner, a native of Cumming, Ga., started her week off
with a hard fought three-set victory over IUP's Tanya Tinko (3-6,
6-2, 10-7), helping the Pioneers hand the Crimson Hawks their first
loss of the season.
Heffner also didn't drop a game in a victory over Bloomsburg's
Aida Diop (6-0, 6-0) and also defeated a solid foe in Quincy's
number one, Amy Kuhle, in three sets (6-2, 6-7, 11-9). She wrapped
up the week with her second SAC victory of the season, besting
Lenoir-Rhyne's Zorica Djuric 4-6, 7-5, 10-4. Heffner is a perfect
10-0 in singles play this season.
Heffner teamed with doubles partner Kate Hutchinson and won
two matches in the top flight. They easily topped Bloomsburg's Diop
and Rin Rietenauer 8-1, and had little trouble with the
Lenoir-Rhyne duo of Dominique Bruce and Lucy Stofberg (8-2).
Hutchinson and Heffner are 7-3 in the top doubles position this
season.
Heffner and the rest of the Pioneers will be back in action on
Friday afternoon when they travel to face SAC rival Wingate. First
serve against the Bulldogs is set for 2 p.m.
