GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The 36th ranked
Tusculum College women's tennis team was victorious by an 8-1
margin over Lenoir-Rhyne University on Thursday afternoon at the
Nichols Tennis Complex.
TC moves to 10-0 overall this season and 2-0 in the South
Atlantic Conference, while Lenoir-Rhyne falls to 2-3 and 0-1 in the
SAC. The Pioneers opened the match with a 3-0 lead after doubles
play.
Kate Hutchinson and Kealee Heffner defeated Dominique Bruce
Lucy Stofberg 8-2 in the top position. Franziska Funke and Amanda
Sumner picked up a win over Zorica Djuric and Lela Sparks Thompson
at number two (8-5), while Emily Waters Adrienne Kaye were
victorious over Jessica Rumple and Amanda Bryan (8-2) in the third
spot.
In singles action, Heffner and Djuric's match in the top
flight was the only one to go three sets, with Heffner prevailing
4-6, 7-5, 10-4. Funke bested Stofberg at number three (6-1, 6-1),
while Hutchinson topped Thompson in the fourth spot (8-2).
Sarah Baker defeated Rumple (6-2, 6-1) in the fifth spot,
while Kay took home the victory over Maggie Brown in the sixth
position (8-2).
After a tough stretch of four-straight matches, Tusculum will
have a few days off before returning to action on the road at SAC
rival Wingate University on Friday, March 20th, beginning at 2
p.m.
