
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College head men's and Women's coach Tommy Arnett claimed his 400th victory as head coach of the Pioneers with a pair of wins on Sunday against Dalton State College. The Tusculum women defeated Dalton State 7-2 while the Pioneer men were a 6-3 winner over the Roadrunners.
Arnett, in his 13th season at Tusculum, has a 217-60 record as Women's coach (.783 percentage) and a 183-88 mark as men's coach (.675 percentage) for a combined mark of 400 wins and 148 losses (.730 percentage). During his tenure, the Pioneers have combined for nine SAC championships, four SAC tournament titles and 13 trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Tusculum capped off a 20-2 regular season with the victory over Dalton State (9-7), winning five out of six in singles and two of three in doubles.
The Pioneers jumped to the lead in doubles as Kate Hutchinson and Kealee Heffner bested Chelsea Powell and Lindsay McCutchen 8-0 at flight one, and Emily Waters and Amanda Sumner downed Laura Winter and Alejandra Bejarano 8-2 at flight three.
In singles play, Sarah Baker used a 10-8 tiebreaker win to defeat Powell at flight one, after splitting the first two sets 4-6 and 6-3. Heffner also claimed a win in singles as she beat Diana Narino 6-0, 6-2 at flight three.
Tusculum closed out the match by sweeping the final three singles contests. Adrienne Kaye was a 6-2, 6-1 victor at flight four over Daniela Sanchez, Sumner swept McCutchen 6-0, 6-0 at flight five and Waters dispatched of Bejarano 6-1, 6-1 at flight six.
Tusculum will face either Queens or Mars Hill in the semifinals of the Food Lion SAC Women's Tennis Tournament on Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C. The championship match is scheduled for Friday, also at 9 a.m.
