
The Tusculum College Women's tennis team dispatched Coker
College 9-0 in a South Atlantic Conference match Thursday
afternoon.
The Pioneers (18-2, 9-1 SAC) rebounded from the end of their
14-match winning streak on Tuesday to Wingate by dropping just nine
games in singles and four in doubles to the winless Cobras (0-17,
0-10 SAC).
Tusculum raced out to a 3-0 lead in doubles as Kate Hutchinson and
Kealee Heffner defeated Jessi Campos and Sarah Elliott 8-2 at
flight one, Erin Mills and Adrienne Kaye downed Faith Baxley and
Kyria Borelli 8-2 at flight two, and Emily Waters and Amanda Sumner
blanked Rachel Solomon and Adri Watford 8-0 at flight three.
In singles, Sarah Baker won 6-3, 6-0 over Campos at flight one,
Mills beat Elliott 6-2, 6-1 at flight two and Hutchinson bested
Borelli 6-1, 6-1 at flight three. At flight four, Heffner downed
Baxler 6-0, 6-1 while Kaye shut out Solomon 6-0, 6-0 at flight five
and Sumner closed out Watford 6-0, 6-0 at flight six.
The Pioneers will look to lock up the number-two seed and a bye
into the Food Lion SAC Tournament semifinals when they host Queens
University in their SAC regular-season finale on Saturday at 12:30
p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
