GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- In a showdown of the final two unbeaten Women's tennis teams in the South Atlantic Conference, Wingate University claimed a 7-2 win over Tusculum College Tuesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The 38th-ranked Bulldogs (17-4, 10-0 SAC) won two out of three doubles matches and took five of six in singles to snap the 14-match winning streak of the Pioneers (17-2, 8-1 SAC).
Tusculum claimed its doubles point at flight one, as Kate Hutchinson and Kealee Heffner beat Ali Evers and Becca Thomas by an 8-5 score. Wingate won the other two contests by identical 9-7 scores to take a 2-1 lead into singles.
The Bulldogs clinched the match by winning the first three singles matches, while the Pioneers earned their lone singles point at flight four as Heffner beat Layla Tanik 10-8 in a tiebreaker after the first two sets were split by 7-6 scores.
The Pioneers will return to action on Thursday at noon at Coker.
