
The Tusculum College Women's tennis team remained unbeaten in
South Atlantic Conference action with an 8-1 win at Lenoir-Rhyne
University on Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers (16-1, 7-0 SAC) have won 13 consecutive matches and
continue to join Wingate as the only two undefeated teams in
conference play. The Pioneers will host the Bulldogs on Tuesday
afternoon in a showdown for first place in the league. The Bears
saw their record dip to 8-12 overall and 1-8 in the SAC with the
loss.
Tusculum posted a clean sweep of doubles play to spark their win
over Lenoir-Rhyne. Kate Hutchinson and Kealee Heffner defeated
Zorica Djuric and Lela Sparks Thompson 8-3 at flight one, Adrienne
Kaye and Erin Mills remained undefeated at 14-0 with a 8-2 win over
Nateesha Hurtt and Meaghan Liner at flight two, and Amanda Sumner
and Emily Waters beat Maggie Brown and Lacey Lapp 8-2 at flight
three.
In singles play, the Pioneers did not lose a set in any of their
five victories. At flight two, Mills defeated Hurtt 6-2, 6-1 at
flight three and Hutchinson downed Thompson 6-1, 6-4 to clinch the
match at flight three. Heffner beat Lapp 6-2, 6-0 at flight four,
Kaye improved to 17-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Brown at flight
five, and Sumner bested Amanda Bryan 6-0, 6-2 at flight six to
close out the victory.
The Pioneers return home on Sunday to take on Brevard in a SAC
match starting at 2 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
