Tusculum sweeps Shepherd, Edgewood to run win streak to eight
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. ---

The Tusculum College Women's tennis team extended its winning streak to eight matches in a row with a pair of 9-0 victories on Tuesday. The Pioneers defeated Shepherd and Edgewood without dropping a set to improve their record to 11-1 ahead of next Tuesday's South Atlantic Conference match against Mars Hill.

The Pioneers lost a total of six games between singles and doubles, with four singles wins and two doubles victories coming with losing a game to the Rams (5-9).

Doubles saw the team of Sarah Baker and Kealee Hefner beat Stacy Brewbaker and Jana Jones 8-0 at flight one, and Adrienne Kaye and Erin Mills defeat Brooke Davis and Chloe Raines 8-0 at flight two. At flight three, Amanda Sumner and Emily Waters stayed unbeaten at 10-0 with an 8-1 victory over Jessica Fort and Alice D'Alauro.

In singles, Baker downed Jones 6-1, 6-1 at flight one and Mills beat Brewbaker 6-2, 6-1 at flight two. The rest of the matches were all 6-0, 6-0 sweeps for the Pioneers, as Kate Hutchinson defeated Davis, Kaye won over Raines, Sumner swept Fort and Waters blanked D'Alauro.

The Pioneers cruised to the win over the Division III Eagles (14-4) by winning all but four games in doubles and 12 in singles.

Hutchinson and Heffner teamed up to beat Morgan Wilson and Brooke McBain 8-1 at flight one, Kaye and Mills beat Anna Miles and Laura Olson 8-1 at flight two to boost their record to 9-0, and Baker and Sumner downed Sarah Rendon and Kristen Boone 8-2 at flight three.

In singles play, Baker beat Wilson 6-2, 6-4 at flight one, Hutchinson defeated Miles 6-0, 6-2 at flight two and Heffner closed out Ellie Wilkie 6-0, 6-1 at flight three. At flight four, Kaye improved to 12-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Olsen, Sumner beat McBain 6-1, 6-0 at flight five and Waters breezed past Ashli Paulson 6-1, 6-0 at flight six.
