The Tusculum College Women's tennis team swept its way to a 9-0
victory over Converse College in a non-conference match Tuesday
afternoon.
The Pioneers (8-1) won their fifth straight match in dominating
fashion, sweeping all three doubles contests by identical 8-0
scores before winning each of the six singles matches in straight
sets against the Valkyries (2-6).
In doubles, Kealee Heffner and Kate Hutchinson defeated Claudia
Gunn and Marisa Esformes at flight one, Sarah Baker and Erin Mills
beat Kelsey Rembert and Samantha Sheffield at flight two, and Emily
Waters and Amanda Sumner boosted their record to 8-0 by defeating
Klaire Rouse and Tanashia Thomas at flight three.
In singles play, Baker beat Gunn 6-1, 6-0 at flight one, Mills
downed Esformes 6-3, 6-1 at flight two and Heffner knocked off
Rembert 6-1, 6-0 at flight three to clinch the win for the
Pioneers. Rounding out singles play, Kaye won 6-1, 6-0 at flight
four over Sheffield, Waters bested Rouse 6-1, 7-5 at flight five
and Sumner won 6-0, 6-1 over Thomas at flight six.
The Pioneers will commence their Spring Break schedule starting on
Monday when they face West Liberty at Hilton Head Island, S.C.
