HARROGATE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College Women's tennis team won its fourth straight match with an 8-1 victory at Lincoln Memorial University in a South Atlantic Conference contest Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers (7-1, 2-0 SAC) grabbed a 3-0 lead in doubles and won two of the first three singles matches to clinch the win over the Railsplitters (2-3, 0-1 SAC).
In doubles play, Kate Hutchinson and Kealee Heffner beat Elena Vasilyeva and Gemma Goodland 9-7 at flight one, Adrienne Kaye and Erin Mills defeated Roksolana Prudyvus and Priscilla Bulandres 8-0 at flight two, and at flight three Emily Waters and Amanda Sumner improved to 7-0 this season with an 8-2 victory over Alexandra Granger and Aura Penalosa.
In singles, Sarah Baker beat Vasilyeva 7-6, 7-5 at flight one and Hutchinson downed Bulandres 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 at flight three to clinch the match. The Pioneers finished off the win as Heffner beat Prudyvus 6-1, 6-0 at flight four, Kaye remained undefeated at 8-0 as she won 7-5, 6-1 at flight five over Granger, and Waters posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Penalosa at flight six. Goodland provided the lone point for the Railsplitters with a three-set win at flight two.
The Pioneers are on the road Tuesday afternoon at Converse for a match beginning at 3 p.m.
