
The Tusculum College Women's tennis team picked up its third
straight victory with an 8-1 win over 19th-ranked Milligan College
Tuesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Pioneers (6-1) swept doubles and won five of the six singles
matches against the Buffaloes (2-2), with all five singles wins
coming in straight sets.
Tusculum opened doubles play with three wins, as Kate Hutchinson
and Kealee Heffner beat Rachel Hodas and Kayla Kelly 8-2 at flight
one, Adrienne Kaye and Erin Mills defeated Sarah Rainwater and
Caroline Morelli 8-5 at flight two, and Emily Waters and Amanda
Sumner teamed for an 8-4 victory at flight three over Ahmee Kelly
and Celeste Carpenter.
In singles, Mills beat Rainwater 6-2, 6-2 at flight two and
Hutchinson defeated Carpenter 6-3, 6-3 to provide the winning
margin for the Pioneers. Tusculum rounded out singles play with
three victories by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores, with Heffner beating
Ahmee Kelly at flight four, Kaye downing Heather Espeland at flight
five and Sumner besting Martha Wells at flight six. Hodas provided
the lone point for the Buffaloes with a tiebreaker win at flight
one.
The Pioneers begin a stretch of five straight matches on the road
when they travel to Lincoln Memorial on Saturday for a SAC contest
beginning at 12 noon.
