The Tusculum College Women's tennis team breezed to a 9-0
victory over King University in a non-conference match Tuesday
afternoon.
The Pioneers (4-1) did not drop a set in singles in their final
tune-up before their conference opener against Anderson on
Sunday.
Tusculum took a 3-0 lead in doubles over King (3-3) as Kate
Hutchinson and Kealee Heffner teamed for an 8-0 win over Ashley
Salazar and Katya Cerny at flight one, Erin Mills and Adrienne Kaye
bested Mariana Hosomi and Naomi Reyes 8-4 at flight two, and at
flight three the tandem of Emily Waters and Amanda Sumner remained
unbeaten with an 8-2 triumph over Alyssa Salazar and Haley
Maloney.
In singles, Sarah Baker defeated Cerny 6-2, 6-2 at flight one,
Mills beat Reyes 6-0, 6-1 at flight two and Hutchinson downed
Hosomi 6-3, 6-2 at flight three. At flight four, Heffner was a 6-3,
6-0 victor over Ashley Salazar, Kaye won 6-2, 6-2 against Alyssa
Salazar at flight five and Waters won 6-0, 6-2 at flight six
against Claudia Morris.
Tusculum's match at Anderson starts at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
