
The Tusculum College Women's tennis team wrapped up the fall
portion of its 2013-14 schedule with a 7-2 win over Bluefield State
College Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers (3-0) lost a total of nine games in their seven match
wins over the Big Blues, including two sweeps in singles and
another in doubles.
In singles play, Erin Mills defeated Isabella Cubillos 6-3, 6-1 at
flight two, Kate Hutchinson defeated Tafadzwa Mawisire 6-2, 6-1 at
flight three and Adrienne Kaye beat Marta Briales 6-1, 6-0 at
flight four.
The final two spots in the Tusculum lineup earned 6-0, 6-0 wins,
with Kealee Heffner beating Maria Hernandez at flight five and
Emily Waters defeating Natasha Williams at flight six.
Bluefield State's lone point came at flight one, where Marijana
Gjorgiesvka rallied for a 4-6, 6-4 (10-3) tiebreaker win over Sarah
Baker.
In doubles, Mills and Kaye beat Mawisire and Briales 8-1 at flight
two, and Waters teamed with Amanda Sumner for an 8-0 victory at
flight three over Hernandez and Williams. Gjorgievska and Cubillos
picked up a point for the Big Blues with a 9-8 (9-6) win over
Hutchinson and Heffner at flight one.
The Pioneers will return to action in just over four months when
they host North Georgia on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 12:30 p.m. at the
Nichols Tennis Complex.
