
A pair of tiebreaker wins helped send Tusculum College to an 8-1
win over Mars Hill University in Women's tennis action at the
Nichols Tennis Complex Tuesday afternoon. The match between South
Atlantic Conference rivals was designated as a non-conference
contest, with the league match set for March 18.
The Pioneers (2-0) swept all three doubles matches from the Lions
(0-2) then used tiebreaker wins from Erin Mills and Kate Hutchinson
to earn the victory.
Tusculum led 3-0 after doubles as Hutchinson and Kealee Heffner
beat Tatiana Dualiby and Lucy McLauren 8-2 at flight one, Sarah
Baker and Mills beat Anna Rickenbaker and Jade Henke 8-6 at flight
two, and Emily Waters and Amanda Sumner downed Dafna Porat and
Grace Diepenbrock at flight three by an 8-1 score.
Dualiby gave the Lions their first point of the match with a 6-1,
6-1 victory over Baker at flight one, but the Pioneers locked up
the win as Hutchinson defeated McLauren 6-4, 3-6, (10-8) at flight
three and Mills beat Rickenbaker 1-6, 6-4, (10-1) at flight two for
the clinching point.
At flight four, Adrienne Kaye defeated Henke 6-1, 6-3, Heffner shut
out Porat 6-0, 6-0 at flight five and Waters beat Natalie Hilbig
6-0, 6-1 at flight six.
The Pioneers will finish up their fall schedule on Saturday at 12
noon at Bluefield State.
