
Tusculum College closed out its South Atlantic Conference
regular-season schedule with a 7-2 victory over Lincoln Memorial
University Friday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Pioneers (16-3, 8-1 SAC) won their seventh straight match and
finished in sole possession of second place in the conference
behind Wingate. By earning the number-two seed in next week's Food
Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament, Tusculum will receive a
bye into the semifinal round which will be played Friday afternoon
at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.
Tusculum swept doubles play to take a 3-0 lead against Lincoln
Memorial, then won four of the six singles matches in straight sets
to close out the victory.
In doubles play, the team of Kate Hutchinson and Adrienne Kaye
defeated Leah Donoff and Aura Penalosa 8-1 at flight one, Taylor
Patterson and Erin Mills earned their 12th straight win with an 8-4
victory over Elena Vasilyeva and Alexandra Granger at flight two,
and at flight three Emily Waters and Amanda Sumner downed Jessica
Baker and Summer Robinson 8-2 for their ninth consecutive
victory.
In singles, Donoff gave the Railsplitters their first point of the
day with a win at flight one, but Mills defeated Granger 6-2, 6-3
at flight three and Patterson downed Vasilyeva 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 at
flight two to clinch the victory for the Pioneers.
Penalosa contributed the other point for the Railsplitters with a
win at flight four, but Kaye beat Baker 6-0, 6-4 at flight five and
Megan Buckmaster defeated Summer Robinson 6-2, 6-0 at flight six to
wrap up the match.
The Pioneers will finish their regular season on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
against King University in a non-conference match at the Nichols
Tennis Complex.
