
The Tusculum College Women's tennis team picked up a South
Atlantic Conference victory on Saturday with a 6-3 win at Catawba
College.
The Pioneers (10-3 overall, 2-1 SAC) bounced back from a tough 5-4
loss to nationally-ranked Wingate on Friday by winning four singles
matches and two doubles contests against the Indians (12-7 overall,
2-4 SAC).
Tusculum grabbed a 2-1 lead by winning a pair of doubles matches.
At flight two, Taylor Patterson and Erin Mills defeated Ally Prior
and Lauren Sledd 8-4, and at flight three Amanda Sumner and Emily
Waters teamed for an 8-4 victory over Andrea Bell and Rachel
Rudisill. Catawba's point came from the number-one duo of Liz
Renteria and Sloan Kessler by an 8-2 score.
In singles play, the Pioneers jumped to a 4-2 lead behind wins from
Patterson at flight two by a 6-1, 6-1 score over Kessler and Mills
at flight three over Sledd, 7-5, 6-4. Renteria accounted for the
second Indians point with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at flight one.
Tusculum clinched the match at flight five as Adrienne Kaye picked
up a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Olivia Myers. Megan Buckmaster also
claimed a singles win with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Bell at flight
six. Prior won in a tiebreaker at flight four for the final point
of the match for the Indians.
The Pioneers will return home on Monday at 4 p.m. against North
Greenville, in a match that was originally scheduled for Feb. 16
but postponed due to wintry conditions.
