
Anderson University advanced to the Food Lion South Atlantic
Conference Women's Tennis Championship match with a 5-1 victory
over Tusculum College in semifinal action Friday morning at the
Rock Hill Tennis Center.
The second-seeded Trojans (12-8) will face top-seeded Wingate in
the championship match Saturday morning, after the Bulldogs
defeated Brevard 5-1 in Friday's other semifinal contest.
Anderson jumped to a 3-0 lead in doubles and won two of the first
three singles matches to clinch the win over third-seeded Tusculum,
which finishes its season with a 17-4 record.
In doubles play, the Trojans' Shelby Anderson and Camie Brunet
defeated Holly Verner and Katelyn Doss 8-5 at flight one, Clair
Larkin and Lindsay Gregory teamed for an 8-6 victory at flight two
over Courtney Conley and Taylor Patterson, and at flight three
Anderson's Avery Owens and Bianca Chequin posted an 8-4 triumph
over Kate Hutchinson and Megan Buckmaster.
Owens defeated Conley 6-1, 6-1 at flight three of singles to extend
the Trojans lead to 4-0, but Verner kept the Pioneers alive with a
6-2, 6-1 win over Brunet at flight one.
With Tusculum winning the other three matches in progress, Larkin
was able to get the decisive fifth point at flight two with a 6-2,
6-4 victory over Doss.
