
The Tusculum College Women's tennis team wrapped up its 2011-12
regular season with a 7-2 victory over Brevard College in South
Atlantic Conference action Tuesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis
Complex.
The Pioneers (16-3, 7-2 SAC) took a 2-1 lead after doubles play,
then won five of six singles matches against the Tornados (11-9,
4-4 SAC). Kate Hutchinson earned the decisive point at flight five
with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Jennifer Nyman.
In doubles play, Hutchinson and Megan Buckmaster won 8-3 over Elise
Labus and Ana Drummond at flight three, while Taylor Patterson and
Courtney Conley rallied from an 8-7 deficit to defeat Nyman and
Lindsay Hostetter 9-8 (7-4) at flight two.
In singles play, Holly Verner posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory at flight
one over Claire Dillman, while the flight two match involving
Katelyn Doss went to the Pioneers when Hostetter retired trailing
4-2 in the first set.
Following Hutchinson's victory, the Pioneers closed out the match
as Patterson downed Labus 6-4, 6-0 at flight four and Buckmaster
posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Drummond at flight six.
The Pioneers will await the conclusion of the conference schedule
to learn their seeding and opponent for the Food Lion SAC
Tournament, which will be played April 19-21 at the Rock Hill
Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C.
