
Lincoln Memorial University defeated Tusculum College 5-4 in a
South Atlantic Conference Women's tennis match Saturday
afternoon.
The Railsplitters (10-5, 4-4 SAC) won two of three doubles matches
and captured the first three singles matches to clinch the win over
the Pioneers (15-3, 6-2 SAC), who won the final three singles
matches to narrow the final margin.
Tusculum picked up a doubles win at flight two, as Courtney Conley
and Taylor Patterson defeated Shena Joseph and Alexandra Granger
8-3. The Pioneer duo improved their season record to 13-2 with the
win.
In singles play, Patterson defeated Granger 6-0, 6-2 at flight
four, Kate Hutchinson downed Joseph 6-4, 6-3 at flight five and
Megan Buckmaster won 6-4, 7-5 at flight six over Aura Penalosa.
Patterson's victory was her team-best 15th singles win this
season.
The Pioneers, who have already clinched a berth in the upcoming
Food Lion SAC Tournament, will finish their regular season Tuesday
at 1:30 p.m. against Brevard at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
Tusculum will honor its three seniors - Katelyn Doss, Katie Hillis
and Kristen Keefer - prior to the match.
