
The Tusculum College Women's tennis team bounced back from a
tough loss on Saturday with a 9-0 sweep of Lenoir-Rhyne University
in a South Atlantic Conference match Sunday afternoon at Hickory
High School.
The Pioneers (14-2, 5-1 SAC) did not drop a set in singles on their
way to their 13th win in their last 14 matches. The Bears dropped
to 2-12 overall and finished their SAC schedule with an 0-9
record.
Tusculum jumped to a 3-0 lead in doubles, as Katelyn Doss and Kate
Hutchinson defeated Kelsey Love and Ivey Tant 8-2 at flight one and
Katie Hillis teamed with Taylor Patterson for an 8-4 win at flight
two over Mariel Mena and Maggie Brown. At flight three, Kristen
Keefer and Courtney Conley claimed a default win over Amanda Young
and Blair McDonough.
In singles play, Doss downed Love 7-6, 6-0 at flight one, Conley
defeated Tant 6-2, 6-2 at flight two and Patterson picked up a 6-1,
6-0 victory over Mena at flight three. At flight four, Hutchinson
won 6-0, 6-1 over Young, Megan Buckmaster beat Brown 6-1, 6-1 at
flight five and Keefer was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over McDonough at
flight six.
The Pioneers will play their fourth straight road match on Thursday
at Lincoln Memorial, with action beginning at 2:00 p.m.
