In a battle of unbeaten Women's tennis teams in the South
Atlantic Conference, host Anderson University emerged with a 5-4
victory over Tusculum College Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans improved to 8-0 in the SAC and 10-6 overall, while the
Pioneers (13-2, 4-1 SAC) had their 12-match winning streak come to
an end.
Three of the six singles matches went three sets, with two of the
winners having to erase a one-set deficit to earn a point. The
closest of the matches was at flight three, where the Trojans'
Avery Owens won 6-2, 6-7, 7-6 over the Pioneers' Courtney
Conley.
Tusculum picked up singles victories from Holly Verner at flight
one by a 7-5, 6-0 score over Camie Beaulieu-Brune, and at flight
four where Taylor Patterson defeated Shelby Anderson 2-6, 6-2, 7-5.
Verner's victory was her team-best 13th singles win of the season
and her eighth in a row.
In doubles, Verner teamed with Katelyn Doss for an 8-2 win at
flight one over Beaulieu-Brune and Anderson, while Conley and
Patterson downed Lindsay Gregory and Clair Larkin 8-3 at flight
two.
The Pioneers will look to get back on a winning track Sunday at
2:00 p.m. with a SAC match at Lenoir-Rhyne.
