
HILTON HEAD, S.C. --- The Tusculum College Women's tennis team claimed its sixth straight victory with a 5-4 win over No. 50 Ashland University Tuesday morning.
The Pioneers (7-1) needed a 6-0, 6-1 win at flight six singles from Kate Hutchinson over Sally Trout to clinch the win over the Eagles (15-6).
The match started with doubles play, and the Pioneers gained two points as Holly Verner and Katelyn Doss defeated Torrie Gaudy and Paige Cooper 9-8 (7-0) at flight one and Courtney Conley teamed with Taylor Patterson for an 8-4 win over Erika Sullivan and Zdenka Pozo at flight two.
In singles play, Verner downed Goudy 6-2, 6-0 at flight one and Conley edged Cooper 6-2, 0-6, (10-2) in a super tiebreaker. Ashland won three of the six singles matches, with Hutchinson's point at flight six giving the Pioneers the match.
Tusculum closes out its trip to Hilton Head Wednesday morning at 8:00 a.m. against Northern Kentucky
