
The Tusculum College Women's tennis team opened its annual
Spring Break trip to Hilton Head with a 6-3 win over UNC Pembroke
Monday morning.
The Pioneers (6-1) and Braves (3-6) were tied 3-3 after singles
play, but Tusculum won all three doubles contests to improve to 5-0
during the spring portion of its schedule.
Courtney Conley posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory at flight three over
Hannah Herlocker, Taylor Patterson downed Shelby Bickel 6-4, 6-1 at
flight four and Kate Hutchinson rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 victory at
flight six over Monica Espitia to help the Pioneers to a split of
singles play.
In doubles, Holly Verner and Katelyn Doss defeated Mia Winterbottom
and Bickel 8-6, Conley and Patterson bested Leigh-Anne McAfee and
Herlocker 8-5, and Hutchinson teamed with Megan Buckmaster for an
8-5 win over Madeline DiNunzio and Espitia.
With their singles wins, Patterson and Conley each moved to 6-1
this season for the Pioneers. Doss and Verner improved their record
to 5-0 in doubles with their triumph.
The Pioneers are back on the court Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
against Ashland.
