
Tusculum College freshman Holly Verner was honored by the South
Atlantic Conference as the Player of the Week in Women's tennis for
the week ending February 26, it was announced Wednesday by the
conference office.
Verner (Del Mar, Calif.) went 3-0 at number-one singles and 3-0 at
number-one doubles to help the Pioneers to road victories over
King, North Greenville and Belmont Abbey last week by identical 9-0
scores. In singles play, her victories came 6-0, 6-1 over King,
6-1, 6-0 against North Greenville and 6-2, 6-0 against Belmont
Abbey. In doubles, she teamed with Katelyn Doss for victories of
8-2 against King, 8-1 at North Greenville and 8-1 at Belmont
Abbey.
Verner is 5-1 in singles and 5-1 in doubles for the Pioneers this
season, winning all five of her singles matches in straight
sets.
The Pioneers (5-1 overall) return to action Saturday with a 2:30
p.m. match at Francis Marion.
