
The Tusculum College Women's tennis team won for the fourth time
in as many matches this spring with a 9-0 victory at Belmont Abbey
College in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon.
The Pioneers (5-1) dropped just one set to cruise to the victory
over the Crusaders (3-7), winning six singles sets by 6-0
scores.
In singles play, Holly Verner defeated Kirstie Jenkins 6-2, 6-0 at
flight one, Katelyn Doss posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory at flight two
over Katharine Miller and Courtney Conley picked up a 6-3, 6-1
victory at flight three over Brooke Ingram.
At flight four, Taylor Patterson needed a 10-point tiebreaker
(10-2) to claim the win over Shannon Ramsey after the players split
the first two sets 6-4, 2-6. Megan Buckmaster shut out Abby Poetker
6-0, 6-0 at flight five and Kate Hutchinson posted an identical
6-0, 6-0 victory at flight six over Michelle Gregory.
The Pioneers opened the match with three doubles victories, as
Verner and Doss downed Jenkins and Miller 8-1 at flight one, Conley
and Patterson defeated Ingram and Paige French 8-2 at flight two,
and Katie Hillis and Kristen Keefer teamed for an 8-0 victory over
Ramsey and Molly Gwaltney at flight three.
Tusculum returns to action Saturday afternoon at Francis Marion,
with match time slated for 2:30 p.m.
