ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College has earned the No. 6 seed in this week's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament, which will be held Wednesday through Friday at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.

The Pioneers, who finished 4-5 in SAC play and 11-8 overall, will face No. 3 Brevard Wednesday at 1 p.m. in quarterfinal action. The Tornados claimed a 7-2 victory over the Pioneers in the teams' regular-season meeting on April 2.

Tusculum is seeking its third Food Lion SAC Tournament championship. The Pioneers claimed its first title in 2004 and won its most-recent crown in 2008. Last year, Tusculum advanced to the championship match but lost 5-3 to Lincoln Memorial University.

Brevard is 14-7 overall (7-2 SAC) and took the third seed by virtue of a tiebreaker with Mars Hill College (10-5, 7-2 SAC), which was awarded the No. 2 seed due to their 7-2 win over the Tornados on April 6.

Conference champion Wingate University, which went undefeated in league play, is the top seed for the Food Lion SAC Tournament. The Bulldogs finished 9-0 in conference play and are 19-1 overall, ranked No. 32 in the Campbell/ITA NCAA Division II national rankings.

Both Wingate and Mars Hill will have byes to Thursday's semifinals.

The other quarterfinal match will have fourth seed Lincoln Memorial University taking on fifth seed Anderson University at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. LMU and Anderson tied for fourth in the regular season standings with 6-3 conference records. The Railsplitters, the tournament's defending champion, earned the fourth seed by virtue of their 5-4 victory over the Trojans on March 7.

The winner of the LMU / Anderson match will face No. 1 Wingate in one semifinal match on Thursday at 1 p.m. The winner of the Brevard / Tusculum match will face No. 2 Mars Hill in the other semifinal match.

The semifinal winners will meet for the tournament championship on Friday at noon. The tournament winner will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Tournament.
