BREVARD, N.C. --- Brevard College defeated Tusculum College 7-2 in a South Atlantic Conference Women's tennis match Saturday afternoon. The Tornados remain unbeaten in the SAC at 4-0 (11-5 overall), while the Pioneers dropped to 9-7 overall and 3-4 in SAC play with the loss.
The Tornados jumped to a 2-1 lead in doubles play, with the Pioneers picking up their point at flight three when Blake Thompson and Megan Buckmaster defeated Elise Labus and Jennifer Nyman, 8-3. Brevard's points came from Lindsay Hostetter and Lindsay Shaeffer at flight one by an 8-2 score over Courtney Conley and Taylor Patterson, while at flight two Claire Dillman and Michelle Prata downed Katie Hillis and Kristen Keefer, 8-3.
Tusculum claimed a win at flight five singles, as Thompson cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Nyman. Brevard swept the remaining matches, as Shaeffer defeated Conley 6-3, 6-1 at flight one, Hostetter beat Patterson 6-2, 6-4 at flight two, Dillman downed Buckmaster 6-3, 6-1 at flight three, Prata outlasted Keefer 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 at flight four, and Labus knocked off Hillis 6-3, 7-5 at flight six.
The Pioneers are back in action Sunday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex, hosting Anderson at 2 p.m. in a match rescheduled from the previous Sunday due to rain.
