Visiting Lincoln Memorial University defeated Tusculum College
8-1 in a South Atlantic Conference Women's tennis match Monday
afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex. The Railsplitters (8-2,
3-1 SAC) swept all three doubles pro sets and won five of the six
singles matches over the Pioneers (9-5, 3-2 SAC).
In doubles play, Sofia Lopez Mimendi and Aura Penalosa defeated
Courtney Conley and Taylor Patterson 9-8 at flight one, Leah Donoff
and Melanie Smith teamed for an 8-3 victory at flight two over
Kristen Keefer and Katie Hillis, and Alexandra Granger and Shena
Joseph came away with an 8-6 victory over Megan Buckmaster and
Blake Thompson at flight three.
The lone singles win for the Pioneers came at flight four, where
Keefer was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Joseph. Thompson took the second
set from Penalosa at flight five by a 6-2 score, but fell 10-4 in
the tiebreaker after dropping the first set 6-3.
In other singles matches, Donoff defeated Conley 6-2, 6-1 at flight
one, Mimendi was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Patterson at flight two,
Granger downed Buckmaster 6-2, 6-3 at flight three, and Smith edged
Hillis 6-4, 6-4 at flight six.
Tusculum will be back on the courts Tuesday afternoon at Mars Hill,
beginning at 2 p.m.
