
The Tusculum College Women's tennis team opened its Spring Break
trip to South Carolina with a 6-3 loss to UNC Pembroke Monday
morning. The Pioneers (5-3) won two singles matches and captured a
doubles pro-set against the Braves (3-5).
In singles, Megan Buckmaster went to a 10-point tiebreaker with
Hannah Herlocker at flight three and came away with a 4-6, 6-1,
(10-5) victory, while at flight four Kristen Keefer took a 7-5, 6-1
victory over Maricel Quintero.
UNC Pembroke won in straight sets in each of the other four
flights, as Jenna McGary won 6-0, 6-2 at flight one over Courtney
Conley, Mia Winterbottom downed Taylor Patterson 6-4, 7-5 at flight
two, Madeline DiNunzio doubled up Blake Thompson 6-3, 6-3 and
Christian Minnick posted a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Katie Hillis at
flight six.
In doubles, Thompson and Buckmaster gave the Pioneers their lone
point with a 9-7 win at flight three over Quintero and Minnick.
McGary and Herlocker teamed for an 8-4 win over Patterson and
Conley at flight one, and Winterbottom and DiNunzio held on for an
8-6 win at flight two over Hillis and Keefer.
The Pioneers are back on the court Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
against Limestone.
