
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College improved to 4-1 this season with a 6-3 victory over King College in non-conference Women's tennis action at the Nichols Tennis Complex Friday afternoon. The Pioneers won five of the six singles matches to overcome a 2-1 deficit to the Tornado (5-5).
Picking up two victories apiece for the Pioneers were Kristen Keefer and Katie Hillis, who each claimed straight-set wins in singles and teamed for an 8-2 victory over Brittany Freund and Eden Sherrod at flight three of doubles. Keefer defeated Freund 6-2, 6-2 at flight five of singles and Hillis came away with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at flight six.
In other singles action, Megan Buckmaster defeated Nerece Stoltz 6-2, 6-2 at flight two, Taylor Patterson downed Karissa King 6-1, 6-2 at flight three and Blake Thompson accounted for the decisive point with a 10-8 tiebreaker win over Sarah Anderson after the first two sets were split 6-0 and 4-6.
The Tornado claimed a singles point at flight one, where Virginie Brioschi was a 6-2, 1-6, (10-5) winner over Courtney Conley. Brioschi and Stoltz teamed for an 8-1 win at flight one of doubles over Conley and Patterson, and King and Anderson combined for an 8-5 win at flight two over Buckmaster and Thompson.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday against 13th-ranked Francis Marion, with the match slated to begin at 11 a.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
