Tusculum College claimed a 7-2 victory at Milligan College in a
non-conference Women's tennis match Saturday afternoon. With the
win, the Pioneers improve to 3-1 while the Buffaloes dropped to 3-2
with the setback.
Tusculum opened the match with a pair of pro-set doubles wins.
Katelyn Doss and Taylor Patterson teamed for an 8-0 win over
Caitlin Conley and Jessie Rose Remegi at flight two, and Blake
Thompson and Kristen Keefer came away with a hard-fought 9-7 win at
flight three over Halie Winfrey and Celeste Carpenter.
Milligan earned a doubles point at flight one, where Kayla Kelly
and Albany Kelly combined to take an 8-3 win over the Pioneers'
team of Megan Buckmaster and Courtney Conley.
In singles, Buckmaster downed Albany Kelly 6-2, 6-4 at flight two,
Patterson bested Caitlin Conley 6-1, 6-4 at flight three, Thompson
cruised past Remegi 6-1, 6-1 at flight four, Keefer downed Winfrey
6-2, 6-2 at flight five, and the Pioneers' Katie Hillis fought to a
10-3 tiebreaker win over Carpenter after they split the first two
sets by 6-3 scores.
At flight one, Milligan's Kayla Kelly also needed a 10-point
tiebreaker, and then some, as she squeaked past Courtney Conley
5-7, 6-1, 12-10 for the Buffaloes' only singles point.
Tusculum returns home to the Nichols Complex on Friday afternoon
for a 1 p.m. match against King College.
