ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College's Heidi von
der Lage has been named the South Atlantic Conference
Women's Tennis Player of the Week announced league officials
Tuesday.
The Oak Ridge, Tenn. senior record a pair of singles and doubles
wins last week, as the Pioneers (16-4, 8-0 SAC) posted victories
over Lincoln Memorial University and North Greenville University.
TC's 6-3 win over LMU clinched the 2009 SAC Championship for the
Pioneers, their fourth league title in school history and first
since 2004.
The American Heritage Academy graduate opened the week with a 6-1,
6-0 win over LMU's Emily Osborne at No. 4 singles. She preceded
that with an 8-4 pro-set win at No. 3 doubles with Jessi
Smith over the LMU pairing of Melanie Smith and Mandy
Mills.
In the Tusculum's 9-0 win at North Greenville, von der Lage and
Smith won 8-5 over Courtney Lynn and Natalie Stewart at the third
flight. She followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Lynn at No. 4 singles
as Tusculum posted its eighth win in its last nine contests.
von der Lage has posted a 12-6 singles record this season,
including 6-2 in league play. The duo of von der Lage and Smith has
a 9-2 doubles worksheet (5-2 in SAC).
The SAC Tennis Player of the Week is selected by a vote of the
league's sports information directors.
Tusculum has already wrapped up its regular season and will host a
quarterfinal round match of next week's Food Lion South Atlantic
Conference Tournament. Opponent and match time will be announced by
the league office.
