Women's TENNIS SWEEPS NEWBERRY 9-0 FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN

Jennifer Sparks GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The No. 27 Tusculum College women's tennis team swept Newberry College (0-9, 0-4 SAC) on Friday afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference match at the Nichols Tennis Complex. With the win, Tusculum improves to 13-3 overall and stays atop the SAC standings with a 6-0 record in league play.

Caroline Crowe and Katelyn Doss defeated the duo of Autise Mortimer and Rebekah Crouch (8-4) in doubles action to register Tusculum's first point of the afternoon. Amanda Pike and Jennifer Sparks notched an 8-0 win over Allison Kyzer and Kelly Cheesborough, while Heidi von der Lage and Jessi Smith defeated Denise Williams and Lindsey Kyzer by a score of 8-0.

In singles play, Sparks defeated Mortimer (6-3, 6-4); Doss swept Crouch (6-0, 6-0); and Pike defeated Cheesborough (6-1, 6-1) to clinch the team victory. Lage also defeated Allison Kyzer (6-1, 6-1); Crowe swept Lindsey Kyzer (6-0, 6-0); and Blake Thompson won her flight against Williams (6-0, 6-0) to record Tusculum's sixth team sweep of the season.

The Pioneers return to the court on Saturday when they travel to Brevard for a SAC match at 1 p.m.
