GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Blake Thompson
recorded the deciding point at No. 6 singles to lead the No. 27
Tusculum College women's tennis team to a 6-3 South Atlantic
Conference win over Carson-Newman College Sunday afternoon at the
Nichols Tennis Complex.
In a rematch of last year's Food Lion SAC Tournament Championship
match, Tusculum captured two of the three doubles points, while
recording four points in singles play, including a 6-1, 6-4 win by
Thompson over Cassie Moulton to seal the TC victory.
Three of the singles matches went the distance, including the
third flight as TC's Amanda Pike rallied from a
set down to defeat Kylie Elliott, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.
Tusculum (9-3, 2-0 SAC) jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles,
including 8-4 pro set wins at the top two flights. Katelyn
Doss and Caroline Crowe defeated the No.
1 pairing of Amanda Bartlett and Taryn Cappadona, while
Jennifer Sparks and Pike knocked off Elizabeth
Sneed and Moulton at No. 2 doubles. C-N's Emily Sorah and Elliott
won 9-8 over Heidi von der Lage and Jessi
Smith at the third flight.
Doss recorded Tusculum's third point with her 6-2, 6-4 win at No.
2 singles against Sneed. Bartlett rebounded from her doubles
setback in defeating Sparks 6-4, 6-2 at the top flight.
The Pioneers return to action Wednesday afternoon when they host
Lincoln Memorial University in a 3 p.m. league match. Carson-Newman
(4-2, 2-1 SAC) will be at Catawba next Saturday at 1 p.m.
