HARTLEY SHINES ON SENIOR DAY, Women's BEATS CATAWBA 7-2

Bronwyn Hartley GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Senior Bronwyn Hartley recorded a pair of points to lead the No. 37 Tusculum Women's tennis team to a 7-2 South Atlantic Conference win over Catawba Friday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex. The Pioneers (16-3, 5-1 SAC) win their fifth straight match and clinch the No. 2 seed in next week's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament. Catawba slips to 14-8 overall and 4-3 in SAC play.

Tusculum swept all three doubles points, including an 8-3 decision by Hartley and Blake Thompson in the third flight over Catawba's Vanessa Silva and Jennifer Dameron. The Pioneers clinched the victory with a point by Hartley at No. 2 singles and Amanda Pike's straight set triumph over Meri Cartmill at the third flight.

Catawba's Julia McKinzie defeated Jennifer Sparks 7-5, 7-6 in a hard-fought match at the top flight, while Silva accounted for another point by the visitors with an 8-6 pro set win over Thompson at No. 5 singles.

Tusculum will host Wingate on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. in the regular season finale for the Pioneers.
