GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- A new era in Tusculum University women's soccer begins on Friday, Sept. 1 when the Pioneers host West Alabama in their 2023 season opener at Pioneer Field.
For the first time since 1997, the Pioneers will have a new coach on the sidelines as former player and assistant coach Vanessa Fyffe takes over following the retirement of Mike Joy after 26 seasons and 290 victories at Tusculum.
Fyffe is a 2010 Tusculum graduate and four-year letterwinner as a goalkeeper for the Pioneers from 2006-09. She is the third head coach in program history and welcomes back four starters from last year's team that finished 9-4-5 overall and 3-3-5 in the South Atlantic Conference.
"I am very excited to be leading the team and coaching with my new staff heading into the next phase of soccer here at Tusculum University," said Fyffe. "Preseason has flown by, and we have done major work getting our incoming players integrated into our style of play and developing a new team culture. The team has worked very hard in preparation for the upcoming season. We are looking forward to the official kickoff and the challenges that come along with playing soccer within the very competitive South Atlantic Conference."
