GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Chayse Stonebraker scored the tying goal with 10:53 left in the second half to lift Tusculum University into a 1-1 draw with Carson-Newman University in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action at Pioneer Field Wednesday evening.

The Pioneers (9-3-5, 3-3-5 SAC) salvaged the draw after being down a player for the final 22:17. Stonebraker's goal, her first of the season and second in 57 career games, helped Tusculum extend its unbeaten streak to nine matches (5-0-4), the longest for the Pioneers since going undefeated in 12 straight contests (10-0-2) during the 2012 season.

Savannah Fields scored in the fifth minute for the Eagles (9-3-4, 7-2-2 SAC), who had already locked up the third seed in the SAC Championship tournament heading into Wednesday's match. Carson-Newman, who entered the game seventh in the latest NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, finished with a 12-6 advantage in shots over Tusculum but had just one shot attempt after gaining the edge in field players over the Pioneers.

With the draw, the Pioneers earned the seventh seed in the SAC Championship tournament and will play at second-seeded Catawba in the quarterfinal round on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Indians, ranked 12th in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II poll, lost their first conference game of the season to Lenoir-Rhyne 4-1 on Wednesday to drop from first to second in the final standings behind the Bears.

Tusculum had the first shot on goal in the fifth minute, but a 40-yard free kick from Marja Enste bounced to Carson-Newman keeper Laura Germes.

Just 30 seconds later, the Eagles went up 1-0 at 4:52 as a through ball from Nellie Bryneus connected with Fields, who beat Tusculum keeper Grayson Patterson for her second goal of the season.

Another free kick from Enste was stopped by Germes in the 11th minute, while Patterson was tested on a diving save off an attempt from the Eagles' Addie Henry in the 13th minute. Patterson would then smother a try from 10 yards from Carson-Newman's Carina Wust in the 22nd minute, who would miss wide to the far post from 35 yards in the 34th minute.

Tusculum had two chances late in the half, with a header by Rosy Wodhams off an Enste free kick going wide in the 36th minute and a header by Ella Funderburk off a corner missing the target a minute later. Fields would have the last chance of the half in the 39th minute but shot high from 25 yards as the Eagles led 1-0 at intermission.

Carson-Newman had the first five shots of the second half, including a try from 35 yards by MJ Park in the 56th minute and a roller from 15 yards from Sydnee Duncan to Patterson in the 63rd minute.

Tusculum appeared fated to defeat in the 68th minute when the red card was shown, dropping the Pioneers to 10 players for the remainder of the match. Despite their shorthanded status, the Pioneers played even with the Eagles and did not allow a shot after a two-hopper from Park in the 77th minute was collected by Patterson.

The Pioneers would gain the equalizer at 79:07 as a long feed from the back by Wodhams went to Stonebraker, who was playing left wing instead of her customary left back position. Stonebraker cut from the left side to the middle 30 yards from goal, then unleashed a rising shot that soared over Germes and into the goal to knot the score at 1-1.

Buoyed by the goal, Tusculum kept up the pressure in the closing minutes and earned a pair of corner kicks, nearly converting with just under 30 seconds left as a header from Sydney Grant was saved by Germes.

Patterson, who was named SAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks, finished with five saves for the Pioneers while Germes had three saves for the Eagles.

Tusculum was called for 16 fouls in the match to 13 by Carson-Newman, and the Eagles had a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Catawba (14-2-2, 8-1-2 SAC) was the last team to defeat Tusculum this season, earning a 4-0 victory at Pioneer Field on Sept. 24. The Pioneers and Indians have not met in the SAC Championship tournament since 1999, when Catawba earned a 1-0 victory in the semifinal round.
