Pioneers fall 5-0 at fifth-ranked Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- Fifth-ranked Lee University defeated Tusculum University 5-0 in non-conference women's soccer action Wednesday night at the Lee Soccer Field.

Devin Healy had a goal and an assist for the Flames (4-1-0), who led 3-0 over the Pioneers after 31 minutes in their home opener. Lee outshot Tusculum 17-4 in the match, tacking on two goal in the final six minutes to extend their lead.

Lee took a 1-0 lead at 5:51 on an own goal, and went up 2-0 at 18:05 as Riley Henry scored her first of the season off an assist by Healy. Healy scored unassisted at 30:51 to sent the Flames to the half with a 3-0 lead, thanks to a 6-1 advantage in shots over the Pioneers.

In the second half, Lee peppered 11 shots on the Tusculum goal but were turned aside until 5:59 remaining, when Mallory Hayden scored with an assist to Kelsey Yoder. Less than two minutes later, Riley Engels notched her second goal of the season with 4:18 left to set the final margin.

Tusculum did not have a shot on goal against Lee keeper Taylor Green, who played nearly 71 minutes between the posts for the Flames. The Pioneers' first shot on target came from Darby Johnson in the 75th minute against backup keeper Mollie Wheeler, followed by Maddie Vossen in the 81st minute.

Cecilie Ting Mortensen played nearly 76 minutes in goal for the Pioneers and made two saves, with Danielle Breen adding one stop over the final 14 minutes. Each team had two corner kicks, and Lee was whistled for six fouls to five by Tusculum.

The Pioneers will return to South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Newberry.
