Tusculum College head Women's soccer coach Mike Joy announced
Wednesday that five student-athletes have committed to join the
Pioneer program in the fall of 2016.
Accepting invitations to compete for the Pioneers are Lexie Gregg
of Greeneville High School in Greeneville, Tennessee; Alexus
Beaz-Pecoraro of Oceanside High School in Oceanside, California;
Lexie Smith of Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia; Maddie
Vossen of Kings High School in Kings Mills, Ohio; and Ashley
Weidlich of Tuscola High School in Waynesville, North Carolina.
Gregg was a member of the Greeneville state championship girls
soccer team this past fall, where she played forward. She was also
a member of the Greeneville Galaxy club team that won a 2012 state
championship, and also played club soccer for the Knoxville Soccer
Academy. Gregg is a member of the National Honor Society and Youth
Leadership.
Beaz-Pecoraro is a central defender for Oceanside, which currently
has a 9-2-4 record this season after going 6-2-2 in league play
during the 2014-15 season. She is also a member of the San Diego
Surf EGSL Academy club program.
Smith was a team captain at Collins Hill, where she played center
midfield. As a member of the UFA 98 Premier club team, Smith had
five assists from her outside back position to help the team to an
undefeated season and the division championship. She will graduate
with honors this spring and is a member of the Philharmonic
Orchestra as a cellist.
Vossen was named second-team All-City and honorable mention
All-District during her senior year at Kings. She played club
soccer for the Cincinnati United Premier Gold, where she was an
outside defender. Vossen has received multiple All-Academic awards
during her scholastic career, including the Academic Excellence
award from the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association.
Weidlich helped Tuscola win two consecutive conference
championships and earned spots on the All-Conference and All-Region
team. She set school records for goals (48) and points last spring
as a junior, and enters her senior season with 71 career goals. She
played center forward for the 97 HFC Red club team, which went to
the State Cup quarterfinals last year.
The Pioneers compiled their 18th consecutive non-losing season in
2015 with a record of 9-8-2 overall and 5-4-2 in the South Atlantic
Conference. Tusculum has finished in the top three in the
conference 11 times in 17 seasons as a member of the league, and
has the second-best league winning percentage (.657) among active
members. Joy is the winningest coach in school and conference
history, with 241 overall wins and 87 conference triumphs in 19
years at Tusculum.
