Women's soccer plays to scoreless draw with Wingate on Senior Day

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College and Wingate University played to a scoreless draw Friday afternoon in the regular-season finale for both programs.

With the result, Tusculum moves its record to 9-7-2 overall and 5-4-2 SAC as the Pioneers clinched sixth place in the conference and a berth in next week's South Atlantic Conference Tournament.

Wingate, the No. 3 ranked team in this week's NCAA Division II Southeast Region Poll, also earns a point and seals second place in the league standings.

Wingate out-shot the Pioneers by a 9-5 margin in the opening half, but TC answered in the second half and the two overtime periods by out-gunning the Bulldogs 9-7.

Tusculum keeper Miriah Martin recorded her sixth shutout of the season, while Wingate's Alexis Jones posted her eighth clean-sheet of 2015. Martin finished the match with seven saves, while Jones made four stops.

Tusculum senior Gabrielle Whitt led her team with three shots, while senior Taylor Lewis made two shots in her final home match at Pioneer Field.

Friday was the Senior Day for the Pioneers and the final home contest for TC seniors Whitt, Lewis, Antoinette Allen, Brittany Bowers, Courtney Hackney and Coneisha Waugh.

Tusculum will learn who they will play in next week's SAC Tournament when the official bracket and seeding is announced by the league office later this weekend.
