BELMONT, N.C. --- The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team recorded its eighth consecutive victory with Wednesday's 2-0 non-conference win over visiting Tusculum at Alumni Field.
The Crusaders, the seventh-ranked team in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region, improve to 11-2-1 on the season, while Tusculum (8-6-1) has its five-match winning streak snapped.
Belmont Abbey got first half goals from Meghan Philp and Cierra Skyers, which were both assisted by Laura Shelton.
Tusculum was out-shot in the match by a 15-4 margin as TC keeper Miriah Martin finished with six saves, including five in the second half. Belmont Abbey's Megan Bowen made two saves while recording her ninth shutout of the season.
This marks only the second time this season that the Pioneers have failed to score a goal.
The Pioneers step back into South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday as Tusculum travels to Catawba for a 5:30 p.m. match in Salisbury, North Carolina.
