COLUMBUS, Ga. --- Taylor Burkhart scored the winning goal in the 81st minute to lead the University of West Florida women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Tusculum College Friday afternoon in the season-opener for both teams. The match was held at the Walden Soccer Complex as part of the 2015 CSU Collegiate Invitational and hosted by Columbus State University.

Friday's contest was a historical one for Tusculum as it was the 500th match in the program's 26-year history.

UWF's Amber Pennybaker accounted for three points on the day, including her goal in the 10th minute to put the Argonauts ahead 1-0. Pennybaker worked around two TC defenders and shot to the right side to beat TC keeper Miriah Martin to the goal.

Tusculum picked up the equalizer in the 38th minute Jordan Newby gathered in a rebound from a blocked shot from teammate Alex Valeri and deposited the carom past UWF keeper Anna Chumik.

The score would remained deadlocked until the 80:55 mark of the match as Burkhart went to the left side to regain the lead for the Argos at 2-1. Pennybaker and Deovanny Brennan were both credited with an assist on Burkhart's match-winner.

West Florida out-shot the Pioneers by a 16-6 margin, but only 5-4 in the opening half. The two teams also tied 2-2 in corner kicks.

Chumik recorded the win as she accounted for three saves. Martin finished with five saves and while suffering her first loss of her collegiate career.

Tusculum will wrap up its weekend trip to Georgia on Sunday morning with a 9 a.m. clash against Tampa.
