Three Pioneers earn SAC Women's soccer honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Three Tusculum College women's soccer players have been named to the 2014 All-South Atlantic Conference Team announced league officials Wednesday.

Forward Taylor Lewis garnered first team honors, while midfielder Gabrielle Whitt and defender Olivia Kilgore garnered second team recognition.

The SAC women's soccer awards are selected by a vote of the league's 12 head coaches.

Lewis, a junior from Willingboro, New Jersey, was the Pioneers top scorer in 2014, accounting for nine goals and three assists for her 21 total points. Her goal total is currently fifth in the conference, while her point tally is sixth. She also led the team with five match-winning goals, which are tied for the most in the conference. In her 57 career matches, Lewis has recorded 21 goals and 10 assists for her 52 points. Her nine career match-winners are the sixth most in program history.

Whitt, a junior from Mason, Ohio, played in all 19 matches this season where she finished with one goal and three assists for her five total points. She finished second on the team with her 30 shots, while her 15 shots on goal were the third most on the TC roster. Her lone goal proved to be a match-winner in Tusculum's 1-0 win over Queens.

Kilgore, a sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio, anchored the Tusculum defense that recorded nine shutouts and a 1.02 goals against average. Offensively, she finished tied for fourth on the team in point production (5), while posting two goals and an assist.

Tusculum's season came to an end on Tuesday in the SAC Tournament quarterfinal at third-seeded Newberry. The two teams played to a scoreless draw before the Pioneers were eliminated in a penalty kick shootout (4-3).

Tusculum finished the season with a 10-7-2 overall record for the program's 17 consecutive non-losing seasons and fourth straight campaign with double-digit victories.
