Tusculum Women's soccer blanks Mars Hill 3-0 for third straight win

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Jordan Newby assisted on a pair of goals while Marissa Williams posted her third consecutive shutout to lead the Tusculum College women's soccer team to a 3-0 South Atlantic Conference victory over visiting Mars Hill University Saturday morning at Pioneer Field.

The Pioneers (4-1-1, 2-0-0 SAC) record their third straight win while the Lions (0-6-0, 0-2-0 SAC) remain winless on the year.

Katie Chadwick scored her second goal of the season when she hauled in a rebound off a back-line defender and found the back of the net from eight yards out. The goal was assisted by Newby.

TC notched its second goal of the match just 19 seconds into the second half when Taylor Lewis sent in a blast from 33 yards in front that found the upper right third of the goal for her second scoring tally of 2014.

TC added a goal late in the match when Payton DeHart found the back of the net for the second time in her rookie season. DeHart hauled in a MHU turnover at midfield and she and Newby played give-and-go all the way to the box to account for the final scoring margin.

Tusculum out-shot the Lions by a 19-8 margin, including 14-5 in the second half. Lewis finished the match with a five shots, including two on frame, while Newby posted three shots in the contest.

Williams finished the match with four saves to go along with her 28th career shutout, which are already the most in program and SAC history.

Breona Tate led Mars Hill with four shots in the match, including two on frame. MHU keeper Tori Stajdhuhar tallied six saves in the loss.

Since surrendering a goal at Ashland on Sept. 7, the Pioneers have recorded 430 consecutive shutout minutes.

Tusculum returns to action on Monday night when they host Southeast Region foe King University at Pioneer Field.
