Tusculum College extended its unbeaten streak to 10 games with a
1-1 draw against Newberry College in South Atlantic Conference
Women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Field.
Despite outshooting the Wolves (4-5-2, 1-3-1 SAC) by a 17-5 margin
and taking all 16 corner kicks in the match, the Pioneers (9-1-2,
4-0-1 SAC) could only earn a tie. Tusculum has eight wins and two
draws in its last 10 matches.
Newberry keeper Rebecca Darley made seven saves in goal, including
several excellent stops to keep the match even. Marissa Williams
finished with two saves for Tusculum.
The Pioneers got on the scoreboard at 24:25 as Jana Linke scored
her fourth goal of the season. She took a pass from Amy Neltner and
fired a high shot over the outstretched fingers of Darley to give
Tusculum a 1-0 lead.
Tusculum protected the lead until the 55:29 mark, when the Wolves'
Gabrielle Brodie split the defense and blasted a shot past Williams
to level the score at 1-1.
The Pioneers poured on the offense in the closing minutes of
regulation, but were unable to net the go-ahead goal. The Pioneers
had both shots in overtime but neither were on goal.
Tusculum will be on the road Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. for a
SAC match at Lincoln Memorial.
